Ephesus was constructed on a river bend, that was eventually dredged into a full harbor near the mouth of the Cayster River, on the western coast of Asia Minor (modern Turkey). Along the coastal plain between Smyrna to the north and Miletus to the south, the site is now about six miles from the Aegean Sea.Ephesus Information
The findings obtained in this region where the native people, namely the Lelegs and the Carians have lived since the beginning, indicate that the city is dated back to 2025 years B.C. As far as the years of 1000 are concerned, it is assumed that the Ions came to this region, lead by Androckles. It is believed that the evangelist St. John had spent his last years in the region around Ephesus and buried in the southern slope of Ayosolug Hill. Three hundred years after the death of Saint Paul, a small chapel was constructed over the grave in the 4th century. In the beginning, in 1929, artifacts from diggings and the surrounding were brought here and stored. In 1964, what is now the museum's southern section was built and artifacts were displayed there.
